AI & Automation Specialist
Work with e-commerce clients to solve practical problems with AI, automation, and integrations. Help define the solution, build it, and get it working in daily use.
MakesYouLocal handles customer service for e-commerce businesses selling across markets.
Webshops trust us to look after their customers. As our AI & Automation Specialist, you'll build the tools that help us do it even better.
You’ll build within MakesYouLocal's systems, connecting them to our clients’ platforms and data. This could mean making order information available to an AI assistant, automating part of a returns process, or building a tool that removes repetitive work for our customer service teams.
The role
Our Client Specialists know each client’s business and lead the work of identifying opportunities. You’ll work alongside them to understand the problem, decide what is practical, and turn the opportunity into a working solution.
A big part of the job is helping clients understand what we propose to build, how it will work, and why it is worth doing. You’ll explain which systems and data we need access to, and what we'll use that access for. You’ll answer questions and work with the client’s developers or platform provider to get the agreed access in place.
From there, you’ll build and test the solution. Some projects will use an existing integration. Others will involve reading API documentation, writing a script, or finding a simpler approach that fits the client’s setup.
You’ll have responsibility for moving your projects forward, with support from our AI & Automation Lead and developers. Depending on your experience, you might build in an automation platform, write code, or develop an integration with AI coding tools. The technical scope will reflect your skills and can grow with you.
Expect a mix of hands-on building and working with Client Specialists, clients, and their technical teams. The balance will vary by project. After finishing a build, the Client Specialist owns the solution for the client, and you’ll help with updates and adjustments, involving our developers when needed.
What you’ll do
Work with Client Specialists to assess opportunities and turn client needs into practical solutions.
Explain proposed solutions to clients, including the benefits, how they work, and the access needed to build them.
Coordinate with clients and their technical teams to get the agreed system access and resolve questions along the way.
Build, test, and launch workflows and integrations, then check that they work as intended in daily use.
Document your work, help Client Specialists take ownership, and adapt successful solutions for other clients.
Make updates and adjustments after launch, working with our developers where needed.
Occasionally join sales calls to explain what we can build and what it would require.
The aim is to reduce manual work and help our teams handle more customer enquiries well. We’ll look at whether your solutions work reliably, are used by the people they’re built for, and can help more clients.
What we’re looking for
You have hands-on experience building automations or connecting systems, whether in tools such as Make, n8n, or Zapier, through code, AI coding agents like Claude Code or Codex, or a combination of these. You understand triggers, conditions, and how data moves between systems.
You’re comfortable reading API documentation, working with JSON, and testing requests. You don’t need to be a software developer, but you should be able to investigate why something has failed and work through a solution.
We encourage you to use AI tools to build, debug, and learn. Experience getting useful things working with AI coding tools is relevant here. We expect you to understand what you’ve built, test that it works, and recognise when you need a second pair of eyes.
You take initiative: you investigate a problem, try an approach, and ask useful questions when you need help. You follow through until the solution works and the people using it know how.
You can explain a technical solution clearly to someone without a technical background and discuss the details with their developers. You’re comfortable answering questions, following up, and keeping a project moving when you’re waiting for access or information.
Experience in customer service or e-commerce is useful, particularly if you’ve worked on improving processes. You need fluent written and spoken English.
